Convocation Opens the 2024-25 School Year

Convocation Opens the 2024-25 School Year

Foxcroft's 111th school year opened Sunday afternoon August 25, when students and their families gathered for Convocation in Engelhard Gymnasium or joined via livestream.

The program included remarks from student leaders and school administrators, as well as special musical performances.

Student Vice Head of School Sara W. ’25 led everyone in reciting the School prayer and introduced Foxcroft's 2024-25 co-curricular theme of “All Girls Can Be...” Using the theme as their inspiration, Student Head of School Tashae' A. ’25, Chair of Honor Council Elise R. ’25, and Head Prefect Hayley B. ’25 shared their thoughts on how to have a great year at school.

Sentiments and advice from the student leaders seemed to resonate with students and parents alike. Student Vice Head of School Sara W. ’25 shared, "My advice to you is to remember that all girls can be positive thinkers every day. A positive mindset is essential for success and happiness, enabling you to make the most of any situation. Whether you're facing a challenge, recognizing your own talents and abilities, or giving others the benefit of the doubt, a positive attitude makes all the difference. It was a positive mindset that inspired me to run for this position; it opens doors and creates new opportunities." Student Head of School Tashae' A. ’25 offered, "The school year is long — 282 days long to be exact. Along the way, you will get tired and have some days where you are not feeling it, but let it all work out. Do not be afraid to ask for help or tell someone that you are having a rough time and could use some assistance; communication is key."

Special music was performed by several talented students. Elise L. ’26 showcased her vocal talents with "Brave" by Sara Bareilles, Jessie L. ’26 shared her talent on the piano with a performance of Friedrich Kuhlau's "Sonatina Op. 55, No. 1," and Anna C. ’25 sang a lovely rendition of "What a Wonderful World" by George David Weiss and Bob Thiele.

Following Convocation, parents said goodbye to their daughters, and the New Girls joined their Old Girls for dinner in the Dining Hall.
