Shea G. ’25 and Ms. Linda Reid are our October Everyday Heroes!

We are excited to share that Shea G. ’25 and Housekeeper Ms. Linda Reid are the October winners of Foxcroft's Everyday Hero Award!

The campus community was invited to nominate employees and students who have been doing great things and living out our values in big and small ways during the month. The Everyday Hero Award Committee (Gracie R. ’24, Isabella W. ’24, Tashae' A. ’25, Kyla P. ’26, and faculty members Erika Page, Christine McCrehin, Lynnette Saunders, Dr. Tanya Hyatt, Dr. Whittney Preston, and Cathy McGehee) received a multitude of nominations and the announcement of winners at Morning Meeting on Tuesday was met with much cheering and applause.

Before revealing Shea as the student winner, Student Head of School Gracie R. ’23 shared quotes from the nominations. According to one of her peers, "This student single-handedly saved the Fall Revue. After an allergic reaction forced her to go to urgent care, we thought we wouldn’t have a drummer for any of the numbers in the Fall Revue. Like a miracle, she arrived one minute before curtain up, ready to play. She didn’t have time to review or practice, just to take a sip of water and a deep breath. The show certainly wasn’t easy, but she got through it."

Before the performance, Shea worked really hard to prepare for all of the various songs in the show. According to her teacher, she "memorized several tempos and practiced daily for weeks. Whereas most students had to learn one or two songs, she had to learn every single one." Another nomination said, “This student is a remarkably kind, dedicated, and considerate human. While preparing for the Fall Revue, she spent countless hours of her own free time practicing in the Music Building... She always seems grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and make music together. In addition to her contributions to the Musical Review, this student works hard without fanfare behind the scenes as tech support for morning meetings and as head of the gaming sports club."

Head of School Cathy McGehee also shared reflections from nominations before announcing Ms. Linda as the employee winner. One student wrote, “She never fails to greet me in the morning and make my day. One day, when I was having a particularly hard morning, she gave me a hug as I cried into her arms, telling me that she was proud of me and the work I am doing. Love you, Ms. Linda.” Another shared, “Ms. Linda is always there in the morning to greet me with a smile and kind words. She never fails to tell me she is proud of the things I am doing, and that I will do so much with my life and never to let anyone get me down. Ms. Linda always lends an open ear, open arms, and a shoulder to lean and cry on.”

A faculty member wrote, “One of my advisees shared that something that is helping her adjust to Foxcroft is Ms. Linda. She is there to give students an encouraging word. She really brings so much joy to campus with her optimistic spirit. Her work is not always glamorous, but it is truly essential to everything students and faculty do.”

Another student wrote, “I nominate Ms. Linda for the everyday hero award because every time I walk out of Stuart in the morning, she has the biggest smile on her face and always checks in on us. She truly makes my day better every time I see her. She also is very patient and understanding with the Stuart residents when we sometimes don’t break down our boxes. She is my everyday hero, not only for October but every month.”

Congratulations, Shea and Ms. Linda, on being Foxcroft's October Everyday Heros!
